Alvin Delaney

Alvin E. Delaney, age 83, of Logansport left his earthly body at 10:10 PM Tuesday, November 30, 2010 at Memorial Hospital of a massive heart attack after a long illness.
He was born May 25, 1927 in Petersburg, IN to Ralph and Nellie McCain Delaney.
He was married on October 6, 1946 to Donna J. Hopkins who survives. They recently celebrated their 64th anniversary. He was a retired Logansport fire fighter for 20 years, from 1952 - 1972.
Alvin served in the United States Navy from 1944-1946. He was a member of the American Legion Post #3790.He was an avid sports fan, he watched ball games all the time. He was a former semi pro basketball and baseball player. He loved to hunt, fish and mushroom hunt. He also loved playing golf in Avon Park, Florida where he and Donna resided for 30 years.
He is survived by 2 sons and 1 daughter, Larry ( Pixie ) Delaney, Fountaintown, IN; John (Kathy) Delaney, Logansport, IN; Cathy (Mike) Weaver, Camden, IN ; 7 Granddaughters, Tammy (David) Matthews, Walton, IN; Shannon (Jeremy) Baker, Indianapolis, IN ; Sabrina (John) Berkshire, Logansport, IN; Brianne (Rob) Negrette, Wesley Chapel, Florida ; Michelle (Brian) Harmon, Logansport, IN; Sara (Justin) Clonan, Pensacola, FL; Samantha Weaver (Fiancé, Desmon Heyward) Savannah,Georgia; 3 Grandsons Ryan Delaney; Edwards Air Force Base, California; Michael Berkshire, Burnettsville, IN; David (Sabrina) Berkshire, Monticello, IN; Sisters in laws, Phyllis Hamman, Monterey, IN and Willadean Delaney, Logansport.
He had 36 great grandchildren, several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, 4 brothers; Maurice, Frank, Marvin and Claude, and 1 sister; Wanda Sherman.
Funeral Services will be 1:00 P.M. Saturday, December 4, 2010 at Gundrum Funeral Home with Dr. Horace Smith officiating.
Friends may call from 4-8 PM Friday, December 3, 2010 at the Gundrum Funeral Home
Burial, with full military rites, will be at Davis Cemetery at Burnettsville, IN
