Services for Bill E. Small, 71, Walton, will be at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday in Blue Ball Church.

He died at 6 p.m. Saturday, April 4, 2009, in his residence.

Born Aug. 31, 1937, in Logansport, he was the son of John Everett and Ruth Elizabeth Coblentz Small. He was married Nov. 22, 1959, in Blue Ball Church to Connie L. Shaff, who survives.

Bill retired as a rural mail carrier for the Walton post office. Bill was also a retired farmer.

He was a lifetime and active member of Blue Ball Church and member of the National Rural Letter Carriers Association, where he served as state chaplain for several years. Bill served on the board of directors of the Cass County 4-H Association, where he served as president for four years.

Bill was a 1955 graduate of Washington Township High School. He was an avid sports fan especially when it came to the Cubs and Purdue. He enjoyed golfing, working in the yard and spending time with his family.

Also surviving are son, Mark Small and wife, Lisa, Walton; daughter, Tammy Small, Walton; daughter-in-law, Carla J. Small, Walton; mother-in-law, Lucile Shaff, Logansport; sisters, Joan Plank and husband, Don, Walton, and Charlene Miller, Kokomo; sister-in-law, Jane A. Small, Walton; grandchildren, Cara Small and special friend, Nick Pickering, Walton, Braydon and Aly Small, and Ryan Small, all of Walton; and several nieces and nephews.

Preceding in death are one son, Darin Small; and one brother, Tom Small.

Pastor Jerry Moore will officiate. Burial will be in Ever-Rest Memorial Park.

Friends may call from 2 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at Gundrum Funeral Home and one hour before services Wednesday at the church.

Memorial contributions may be made to Blue Ball Church or the Cass County 4-H Association.
