Carolyn M. Kraay, 80 of Jasper, formerly of Logansport passed away Wednesday, July 12, 2017 at her residence.
Born on April 27, 1937 in Peru, Indiana she was the daughter of the late Earl Lehman and Dorothy Helena (Schwalm) Wolford. On April 3, 1954 in Paris Island, South Carolina she married James Stanley Kraay who preceded in death on December 11, 2005.
Carolyn retired from Chrysler in Kokomo, where everyone knew her as “grandma”. She was an active member at Pisgah Church in Logansport where she taught Sunday School for several years. After the death of her husband she moved to Jasper, IN to be near her daughter.
Carolyn enjoyed playing the piano, going to BINGO, playing cards, doing word search books, puzzles, watching classic movies and listening to the Gaither’s. Over the years she was active in the Rainbow Girls, assistant director of the Indiana State Choir, a 4-H leader and a member of several community organizations. She also had the privilege of playing the piano on stage in Branson, Missouri which she talked about so much.
Carolyn made known before her death that “when the day comes for Jesus to take me home, I want mentioned how much I love my family and two people who I’ve always thought of as my children, Paul Lewellen and Tracy Miller.” Tracy was a caregiver to Carolyn over the years of her illness, along with her daughter Nan.
Surviving are four sons, Phil (Liz) Kraay, Wausau, WI; Brian (Deborah) Kraay, Logansport; Ken (Amy) Kraay, Logansport;Darrin Kraay, Royal Center; daughter, Nanette (Albert) Kern, Jasper, IN; sisters, Joyce Ann Pullen, Walton; Mary Lou Cain, Logansport; brother, Doyne Earl (Barb) Wolford, Logansport; 15 grandchildren; several great grandchildren; several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by a son, Bradley Kraay, a grandson, Andrew Kraay, and a daughter in law, Missy Kraay.
A celebration of life will be held at 10:30 AM on Monday, July 17, 2017 in the Gundrum Funeral Home. Burial will follow in the Pisgah Cemetery, Logansport.
Visitation will be held from 1:00 – 4:00 PM on Sunday, July 16, 2017 also in the funeral home.
