Carolyn M. Walker, 76, died peacefully at Saint Vincent's Hospital in Indianapolis on Saturday, February 5, 2011. She was surrounded and comforted by family.
Born August 7, 1934, in Logansport, she was the daughter of Fred and Martha Hardt. As a young girl growing up on Michigan Avenue, she was proud to be a Horney Creek Marine, as well as enjoying picnic lunches at Mount Hope Cemetery with her childhood friend, Goldie. She was a 1952 graduate of Logansport High School. On August 8, 1954, she was happily married to Keith Walker.
Mrs. Walker was a retired aide for the Logansport School Corporation beginning with the preschool hearing impaired program. She and Keith were also past Co-Presidents for the Fairview P.T.A..
She was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church, the VFW Ladies Auxiliary Post 3790, and the American Legion Post 418 Women's Auxiliary.
Carolyn's life was filled with happy memories especially those of vacations at Bruce Lake and Myrtle Beach and little getaways to Michigan.
She enjoyed precious time with her family, sewing, knitting afghans, crossword puzzles, reading, cooking, baking, monthly gatherings with her classmates, gardening, and bonfires with friends in the backyard. She made well over 100 baby quilts for high risk newborns in South Carolina.
She dearly loved her grandchildren and her 2 great grandsons.
Carolyn is survived by her husband, Keith of 56 years; sister, Joan Davidson; and brothers, John Hardt and Chuck Hardt. Also surviving are her daughters, Susan Rodriguez and her husband , Chico (Logansport); Jan Swing and her husband, Gabe (Davidson, North Carolina); and her son, Joe Walker and his wife, Kristi (Mulberry). Her treasured grandchildren are Lindsey Rodriguez and fiancé, Robert Penn; Brandon Rodriguez and wife, Alex; Morgan Walker, Ryan Walker, Kenny DeHart, and Grace Swing. Bringing such special joy to her life were her great-grandsons, Ryder and Jack Rodriguez.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Fred and Martha Hardt; sister, Helen Moore; and brother, Robert Hardt.
Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m., Wednesday at Gundrum Funeral Home with Pastor Larry DeVos officiating.
Friends may call from 3-8 p.m. on Tuesday at the funeral home.
There will be a church council service held at 6:00 PM Tuesday evening.Burial will be at Mount Hope Cemetery in Logansport.
