Charles P. Schaefer, 80, Logansport, died at 5 p.m. Sunday, Jan. 15, 2012, at WoodBridge Health Campus.

Born May 11, 1931, in Logansport, he was the son of Wayne R. and Mary Flynn Schaefer. He was married Aug. 23, 1957, in Logansport, to Henrietta M. Thompson.

Chuck was an accountant for General Tire & Rubber Company in Wabash, Peru and Logansport.

He was a 1949 graduate of Logansport High School and a 1953 graduate of Indiana University. Chuck was a veteran of the U.S. Air Force serving in Korea, retiring as a major in the Air Force Reserves.

He was a member of First United Methodist Church, BPO Elks 66, VFW Post 3790, American Legion Post 60 and Sigma Nu Fraternity, and he was a Director Emeritus of Cass County Historical Society.

Chuck was a collector of Lionel trains, researched his German genealogy and enjoyed singing in the church choir.

Surviving are wife, Henrietta T. Schaefer, Logansport; son, Charles T. Schaefer and wife, Catherine, Naperville, Ill.; daughters, Patricia S. Reilly and husband, Michael, San Jose, Calif., and Lucinda H. Hoffman and husband, Jacob, Nappanee; grandchildren, Nathaniel B. Schaefer, Abigail J. Schaefer, Madeline H. Hoffman, Andrew S. Hoffman, and Evan S. Reilly; cousins, Samuel C. Butler and wife, Sally, New York, N.Y., Jane B. Kahle and husband, Floyd Nordland, Broomfield, Colo., and Anne B. Hoover and husband, Robert, Indianapolis; sister-in-law, Barbara N. Thompson, West Baden Springs; niece, Chris-Anna Thompson and husband, Jami Musia; and nephew, Zachary Thompson.

He was preceded in death by a brother-in-law, James M. Thompson.

Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Thursday at First United Methodist Church with Dr. Dean Fager officiating. Burial will be in Mount Hope Cemetery.

Friends may call from 2 to 8 p.m. today at Gundrum Funeral Home and one hour before services Thursday at the church.

Memorials may be made to First United Methodist Church or Cass County Historical Society.
