Charles F. Streu, age 93, of Logansport, Indiana, died at 10:55 am Sunday , September 9, 2012 in Millers Merry Manor Nursing Home
Born May 25, 1919 in Cass County, IN, he was the son of Gustav W. and Sarah Margaret Marie (Rivers) Streu. On January 13, 1940 in Royal Center, IN, he married his high school sweetheart, Elizabeth "Betty" L. Lewis who survives.
Charles retired in 1981 as a Engineer for the Conrail railroad after 41 years of service.
He was a member of Cross-Wind United Methodist Church, Elk's Lodge #66, Brotherhood of Locomotive Engineers and Kiwanis International.
In 1951 Charlie and his wife Betty started a grocery store and filling station, at the end of Michigan Ave.. The business was called Char-Bett Food Shop. The business flourished and out grew the building and in 1958 they decided to start a drive in which later became known as Char-Bett Drive Inn. They owned and operated that business until 1978.
Survivors also include his 2 daughters - Kay (Wayne) Thomas of Logansport, IN, Judith Follmar of Taos, NM; son - Charles (Leslie) Streu of Chandler, AZ; brother-in-law, Jack Harvey of Logansport & sister-in-law, Pat Streu of Madison, VA
5-Grandchildren; Brian (Lisa) Streu, Alex Follmar, Leigh Ann (Bob) Schrier, Samantha (David) Taylor & Tara (Chris) Frederick, 4-Step Grandchildren; Chad Pajerski, Brett Pajerski, Evan Follmar & Alicea Follmar, 5-Great Grandchildren; Drew, Megan, Bronson, Gavin & Lily, 1-Step Great Grandchild; Zak, Several Nieces & Nephews.
Charles was preceded in death by 2-Brothers, Harold & John, 1-Sister, Margaret Toots Harvey, 1-infant son, Fred and 1-infant daughter, Carolyn.
Services will be held at 10:30 AM Friday, September 14, 2012 at the Gundrum Funeral Home. Officiating the services will be Dr. George Plasterer . Interment will be in the Mount Hope Cemetery, Logansport, .
Visitation will be held on Thursday, September 13, 2012 5:00 pm - 8:00 pm at the Gundrum Funeral Home.
