PERU â DeWitt âJayâ Stuart, 88, Peru, died at 10:33 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 22, 2011, at his residence.
Born in Cass County on April 29, 1922, he was the son of DeWitt Stuart Sr. Mary Margaret Sheetz Stuart. On Jan. 8, 1965, he married Mary Catherine Selleck in Logansport.
He retired from Arone Hardware in 2010 after eight years of service. He had also worked at Big R for 25 years and Colonial Oil for 13 years.
He enjoyed working on lawnmowers, watching NASCAR, eating apple dumplings, and spending time with his friends and especially his grandchildren. Jay attended Center Church near Young America .
Surviving are his wife, Mary C. Stuart, Peru; daughter, Lisa Newman and husband John, Kokomo; sons, Steve Stuart and wife Beth, Logansport, and Bill Hoffman and wife Tammy, Peru; brothers, Milton Stuart, Logansport, and Kenneth Stuart and wife Brinda, Arizona; seven grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; nephews, John and Carolyn Stuart, Lewisburg, and Duane Stuart and wife Kay, Logansport; and nieces, Marylou Morgan and husband Mike, Logansport, and Stephanie Henson and husband Greg, Georgia.
He was preceded in death by one brother, Marlin Stuart; and one daughter, Patty Ann Stuart.
Services will be at 1:30 p.m. Wednesday at Gundrum Funeral Home with the Revs. Johnny Thompson and John Newman officiating.
Burial will be in Ever-Rest Memorial Park.
Visitation is 4 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.
