Services for Dick W. Carr, 89, of Logansport, will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday in Mount Hope Cemetery Chapel.
He died at 4 p.m. Friday, May 12, 2006, in Millerâs Merry Manor.
Born Oct. 1, 1916, in Logansport, he was the son of L.J. and Helen Higbee Carr. He was married Nov. 5, 1938, in Indianapolis, to Janet Closson, who survives.
Mr. Carr was the former owner and operator of Carr Plumbing and Heating.
A 1935 graduate of Logansport High School, he was a member of the basketball team and was honored in the Indiana Basketball Hall of Fame for being a member of the 1934 State Championship Team. He attended Wabash College.
A veteran of the U.S. Army Air Corps, Dick served during World War II in the 385th Bomb Group. He was a former B-17 pilot with the 8th Air Force, stationed in England during World War II, and was involved in food drops over Europe.
Dick enjoyed flying in general and soloed his first plane on March 3, 1941, and spent numerous hours at the Logansport Airport.
He was a member of Elks Lodge #66, Veterans of Foreign Wars Post #3790, American Legion Post #60 and the Cass County Historical Society.
Also surviving are one son, Richard Carr and his wife, Kandy, Michigan City; one daughter, Virginia Beth Sims and her husband, Terry, Warsaw; one sister-in-law, Virginia Persinger, Logansport; five grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
Two brothers and two sisters preceded in death.
The Rev. Allen Rogers will officiate at the services. Burial, with full military rites, will be in Mount Hope Cemetery.
Friends may call one hour before the time of services Thursday in the cemetery chapel.
Gundrum Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
