Donald C. Jamison, 80, went to be with the Lord on Sunday, March 16th at 5:26am, in his home, surrounded by his family, following a courageous battle with cancer.
A lifelong resident of Cass County, he was born on April 19, 1933 in Logansport, IN, to Earl & Esther (Emery) Jamison. He graduated from Logansport High School with the class of 1951.
Don served his country in the United States Army from May 1953 to April 1955, during the Korean War, stationed in Germany. On May 22, 1955, he married his high school sweetheart, Carolyn Jones, in the Ninth Street Christian Church in Logansport.
Don worked as a glazier at Bet-R-Way Glass Company for nine years and retired from Metropolitan Life Insurance Company after twenty-seven years. Then he did carpentry work for an additional ten years.
He enjoyed playing golf and basketball and especially enjoyed the winters spent at their winter home at Rainbow Resort, Frostproof, FL. The basketball court at Rainbow was named Don Jamison Basketball Court. He was known and loved by his family and friends for his quick wit and fun personality.
After his many years of service, he was recognized as an Elder Emeritus of the River of Life Christian Church (formerly Ninth Street Christian Church), and he was a member of the Sanctuary Choir. He has served as Chairman of the Board of the church, Chairman of the Elders, Chairman of the Deacons, President of the Christian Mens Fellowship at the church, teacher of the High School Class, former leader of the youth groups, song leader, President and song leader of the Cass County Churchmen United. He was also a member of MetLife Veterans Club.
Surviving are his loving wife of 58 years, Carolyn; son, Mark and his wife, Donna Jamison; and daughter, Vicky and her husband, Greg Marschand. Also surviving are eight grandchildren: Jennifer and Jeff Moss, Adam and Jessica Scott, Ashley and Andy Pedigo, Jessica and Kevin Lucy, Julia Dixson, Stephanie and Adrian Holt, Alyssa Truax, and Justin Jamison. Great-grandchildren are: Jocelynne Moss, Zayne Scott, Damon McGuire, Jenna Moss, Paley Scott, Madison Dixson, Alexis Neal, Crew Scott, Payton Dixson, Jonathan Moss, Hudson Pedigo, and Rhory Holt. Also surviving is a sister, Phyllis Jamison and several nieces and nephews.
Step-grandchildren are Ara and Brice Sheriff, Blake and Tara Marschand and Carley and Curt Rawlings. Step great-grandchildren are Zane Lucy, Kalyn and Emma Dixon, Briggs Sheriff, Kinsley and Bayah Marschand and Ella and Brynley Rawlings.
Preceding in death were a beloved daughter, Cathy Lynne Truax, who went to be with the Lord on September 9, 2003; and three brothers, William Cecil Jamison, Lloyd Jamison and Harold Jamison.
Don will be greatly missed by his family and friends.
The Celebration of Life will be at 10:30am on Wednesday, March 19 at Gundrum Funeral Home with Rev. Keith Kincaid and Dr. Sam Young officiating. Interment will be at Bethel Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 2pm 8pm on Tuesday, March 18, and 1-hour prior to the service on Wednesday, March 19. Memorial contributions may be made to River of Life Christian Church.
