Donald E. Barnes Jr., 72, Logansport, died at 11:40 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 15, 2009, in Logansport Memorial Hospital.
Born Jan. 30, 1937, in Logansport, he was the son of Donald E. Barnes Sr. and Margaret H. Newman. He was married Sept. 18, 1978, in Logansport, to Karen A. Jameson, who survives.
Donald retired in 1996 after over 38 years as a U.S. Postal Carrier.
He was a member of Elkâs Lodge 66, Menâs Bowling League, 30 plus years as a Director/Vice President of the Logansport American Bowling Congress, as well as 35 plus years as the league secretary for the Commercial Industrial Bowling League. He attended Helm Street Church of God. Mr. Barnes served two years in the U.S. Army.
He enjoyed bowling, fishing, painting, reading, bird watching, mushroom hunting, playing horseshoes, shuffleboard, and watching sports, especially Purdue and the Chicago Cubs.
Don was a 50-year member and long time secretary of the National Association of Letter Carriers, Bridge City Branch 323.
Also surviving are son, Bradley A. Barnes, Logansport; daughter, Elizabeth Leigh, Logansport; stepsons, Jeffrey Burton, Logansport, and Patrick Burton and wife, Angie, Culver; brother, Robert W. Barnes and wife, Mary C., Logansport; grandchildren, Chasey and Dylan Burton, Emma and Chelsie Leigh, Audrie Burton; great-grandson, Nakota Burton; and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by two brothers, James and Devon Barnes.
Services will be at 1 p.m. Thursday in Gundrum Funeral Home with Pastor Dean Snyder officiating.
Burial, with full military graveside rites, will be in Ever-Rest Memorial Park, Cass County.
Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home, where an Elkâs service is planned at 6 p.m. Wednesday.
