Services for Donald D. Layman, 73, Logansport, will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday in Faith Lutheran Church.

He died at 4:55 a.m. Saturday, May 31, 2008, in St. Elizabeth Hospital, Lafayette.

Born March 25, 1935, in Logansport, he was the son of John W. and Ethel M. Jester Layman. He was married June 17, 1956, in Logansport, to Nancy A. Long.

Donald retired in 1999 as a claims superintendent for State Farm Insurance.

He was a member of Faith Lutheran Church, Tipton Masonic Lodge No. 33, Murat Temple of Indianapolis, Logansport Shrine Club, Anderson American Legion Post No. 127 and Travelers Protection Association. He was a former member of Toastmasters.

Survivors include his wife; son, James E. Layman, Logansport; daughters, Deborah Davis, Anderson, Christiana Layman, Logansport, and Melinda Murphy and husband, Joe, Birmingham, Ala.; brothers, Ronald P. Layman and wife, Linda, Logansport, Charles “Chuck” R. Layman and wife, Phyllis, Logansport; sister, Rose Marie McCormick, Eagle Rock, Mo.; and eight grandchildren, Jacob and Hillary Davis, Justin Layman, Cortney Layman, Katie Layman, Christian Layman, Carter Layman and Melody Layman.

One daughter, Carmen Diane Layman; four brothers, Paul, Ralph, John Richard “Dick” and Gerald “Jet” Layman, preceded in death.

Pastor Sandy Hutchens and Pastor Tom McShannock will officiate. Burial will be in Rock Creek Cemetery, Logansport.

Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. Tuesday in Gundrum Funeral Home. Masonic services will be held at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday evening followed by a Shriners Processional.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Shrine Hospitals for Children, or Faith Lutheran Church.
