Donald B. Winn, 92, Walton, passed away at 9:35 p. m. Tuesday, July 12, 2011, in Logansport Memorial Hospital.
Mr. Winn was born at home near Lucerne on August 24, 1918, the son of Earl and Verdia Bair Winn. He was a 1936 graduate of Lucerne High School. On June 4, 1944, he married Helen A. Noel at her parentsâ home.
For 41 years, Don was employed by the Pennsylvania, Penn-Central, and Conrail railroad. He was a member of the Zion Methodist Church of Lucerne and attended the Walton Christian Church.
Donâs family was important to him; he never passed up an opportunity to work overtime to provide the extra little things in life for his familyâs enjoyment. He was very proud of his children and grandchildren, no matter how large or small the accomplishment. He enjoyed farming, going to the lake, and working in his yard. In his retirement years, he loved spending time in Florida with Helen and their friends. In recent years, he looked forward to sitting on his deck, although he would rather have been sitting on his John Deere mowing!
Our dad was very appreciative that he was able to spend the last five years in his home of 63 years, thanks to the care and companionship of his son, Mike.
He is survived by his son, Mike, Walton, and daughters Tish (Jeff) Mehaffie, Carlsbad, CA, and Susan Platt, Logansport. Other survivors include grandchildren, Monica Mehaffie, Solana Beach, CA, Brandon (Holly) Mehaffie, Escondido, CA, Hillery Platt, Indianapolis, and Natalie Platt, West Palm Beach, FL, three nephews and one niece. Don was preceded in death by his sister Margaret Crimmins in 1988. His wife of 62 years, Helen preceded in death on September 20, 2006.
A memorial service is planned for Wednesday, August 24, (which would have been Donâs 93rd birthday) at 11 a. m. at the Walton Christian Church.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Cass County Community Foundation, 417 North Street, Suite 102, P. O. Box 441, Logansport, IN 46947.
Gundrum Funeral Home is handling the arrangements.
