Donald A. Zinsmaster Sr., age 82, of Logansport, Indiana, died at 5:00 PM Friday in Memorial Hospital Logansport, IN.
Born November 9, 1925 in Huntington, IN, he was the son of Louis Zinsmaster and Geneva Bowen. Donald married Josephine T. Rose on April 20, 1954 in Logansport, IN. She preceded in death on May 10, 2003
Donald retired in 1988 from Rockwell International.
Don was a Life Member of V.F.W. Post #3790 and American Legion Post #60. Donald joined the U.S. Marine Corp at 17 in 1943, and saw action in the South Pacific, Landing on Tarawa, Tinian and Guadacanal. After brief civilian life he joined the U.S. Army and stationed in Japan when the Korean War started and was among the first to serve in combat there. He received the Bronze Star and numerous other service metals.
He was also an avid golfer, loved bowling and was loved and respected by family and many dear friends.
Surviving are one daughter, Donna Jo Young of Constantine, MI; son, Steve Zinsmaster of Logansport, IN; son, Don A. Zinsmaster Jr. of Logansport, IN; Step Son, Gi Tancredi of Lake Elsinore, CA; sister, Shirley Easter and husband Fred of Twelve Mile, IN; Brother, Jerry Zinsmaster and Donna of Decatur, IN; Grandchildren, Hayley & Luke Zinsmaster of Logansport and Jeff and Joe Young, Constantine, MI. Along with several nieces and nephews
Donald was preceded in death by two Brothers, Harold and Richard (Dick) Zinsmaster, one sister Betty Teeple, and son-in-law Jeff Young.
Services will be held 10:00 AM Monday September 22, 2008 at the Gundrum Funeral Home with Rob Halter officiating. Interment will follow with full military rites in the Mount Hope Cemetery, Logansport, IN.
Visitation will be held Sunday, September 21, 2008 from 2:00 â 6:00 pm.
