Dorothy Remley

Dorothy I. Remley, formerly of Lucerne, passed away June 24, 2013 at 2:55 a.m. on her 93rd birthday. Born June 24, 1920 in her rural family home near Buffalo in White Co., Dorothy Crowder was the daughter of the late Byno and Elnora (Vanscoyk) Crowder.

Dorothy was a 1938 graduate of Buffalo High School. She met Harold Remley at a dance in Royal Center while he was on furlough during WWII. They were married on October 18, 1947 at St. Anne’s Catholic Church in Kewanna. Their dance continued for 50 years until Harold’s death on March 28, 1998.

Dorothy loved to spend summer weekends at the family cottage on the Tippecanoe River near Buffalo. She was an avid seamstress, and she always had a favorite dish ready for anyone who stopped by to visit. Dorothy was a former member of St. Elizabeth’s Catholic Church in Lucerne and the Bethlehem Township Home Ec Club.

Surviving are her son, Jon Remley & companion Doris Myers; and her daughter, Nora Woodhouse & dear friend Fred Peterson. “Grammie” adored her seven grandchildren and 12 (and counting) great-grandchildren: Jonathan (Tammy) Remley and Michael of Logansport; Jennifer (Brad) Konkle and Audrey, Natalie and Levi of Fishers; Jamie (Michelle) Remley and Peyton of Lucerne; Jeremy (Lori) Remley and Tyler and Carly of South Bend; Chip (Paige) Woodhouse of Royal Center; Molly (Todd) Cain and Everett of Cannon Falls, MN; and Wes (Karen) Woodhouse and Anderson, Alette, Eva and Avril of Lucerne. “Aunt Do” also treasured her nieces and nephews.

In addition to her husband, Dorothy’s sister, Pauline Shields, and her brothers Robert Crowder and Jack Crowder preceded her in death.

Visitation will be from 3:00 p.m. – 7:00 p.m. on Thursday at Gundrum Funeral Home. A funeral service will be at 10:00 a.m. on Friday at Gundrum Funeral Home. Burial will follow at Mount Hope Cemetery.

Dorothy enjoyed good health for much of her life, but macular degeneration caused her more frustration than any other ailment. Memorial contributions may be made to the American Macular Degeneration Foundation, PO Box 515, Northampton, MA 01061-0515 or via www.macular.org/howhelp.html or to Guardian Angels Hospice Foundation via http://guardianangelhospice.com/donations.html.
