Dorothy Jean Richter

Dorothy Jean Richter, 88, of Rochester, passed away Tuesday August 8, 2023, at Wynnfield Crossing in Rochester.

Born February 7, 1935, in Kewanna, IN to the late Elmer F. and Nola June (Burton) Douglass. On June 19, 1960, in Lucerne, IN she married Harry J. Richter who preceded in death on November 26, 2022.

Dorothy was a retired elementary school teacher. She had taught in the South Bend, Logansport, Rochester and Caston Schools. She had also formerly worked at the Fulton County License Branch. Dorothy was a member of the Lucerne Christian Church, a 1953 graduate of Grass Creek High School and a 1959 graduate of Ball State University with a master’s degree in education.

Survivors include two sons, Brian (Jennifer) Richter, Rochester; Todd Richter, Rochester; two grandsons, Nicolas (Mackenzie) Richter, Rochester; Blake Richter and fiancée Abbey Hanson, Rochester; several nieces and nephews.

Dorothy was preceded in death by two brothers, Elmer Jay “Don” Douglass and Dale Douglass.

A celebration of life will be held at 10:30 am Friday at the Lucerne Christian Church, 1585 W. Frushour street, Lucerne, IN 46950, with Pastor Dirk Raderstorf officiating. Burial will follow in the Fulton Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 3 – 7 pm Thursday, August 10, 2023, in the Gundrum Funeral Home. There will also be a visitation from 9:30 am until time of services at the Lucerne Christian Church on Friday.
