Dr. Charles B. Leffert, age 94, Logansport, passed away Saturday Nov. 12, 2016, at McKinney Place in Logansport.

Born May 22, 1922, in Cass County, he was the son of the late Charles and Mabel Marshall Leffert.

Charles attended grade school in Walton.  He graduated from Logansport High School in 1940.  He was the first Editor-in-Chief of the Logansport Tattler staff.

Charles graduated from Purdue University in 1943 with a Bachelor of Science degree in Chemical Engineering.  He began working for the Union Oil Company of California in Research and Development.  While in California, he met and married Irma Jean (Penny) Nelson on August 9, 1945 in Long Beach.  They then moved to Pittsburg, Pennsylvania, where Charles worked for Pittsburg Consolidated Coal Company in Research and Development.  While at Pittsburg, he attended the University of Pittsburg and received a Master's of Science degree in Chemical Engineering in 1957.

They moved to Troy, Michigan, where Charles worked in research for General Motors as a Chemical Engineer.  He also attended Wayne State University and received a PHD in Philosophy in 1974.  He became a Professor at Wayne State and taught Chemical Engineering for 10 years.  Upon retirement, he was honored as a Professor Emeritus.

Charles was an avid fisherman and enjoyed fishing for walleye in the St. Claire River.

After Charles retired from Wayne State, he decided to study cosmology. During the next few years, he authored 3 books on the subject.

Surviving are his wife, Penny, sister Nancy (Stan) Smith, sister-in-law Janet Faye Leffert, nephews Jeff (Sue) Leffert, and Greg (Marcy) Leffert, nieces, Rebecca (John) Erwin and Lynne (Mark) Moor.

Charles was preceded in death by his parents and brothers, Jack and Thomas Leffert, and sister-in-law Janet Lee Leffert.

A private interment will be held at a later date in the Ever-Rest Memorial Park Cemetery.
