Dr. Sitha Gita Kalapatapu and Dr. Umamaheswara Rao Kalapatapu were both born in Andhra Pradesh, India. They both completed their medical school training in Guntur Medical College in India and immigrated to the U.S. in the 1980’s and completed their psychiatry residency in Iowa. They moved to Logansport, Indiana in 1985 and worked at the Logansport State Hospital for approximately 1 year, followed by Four County Counseling Center for approximately 9 years. In 1995, they opened up their own private practice, Raj Clinics, and have expanded their practice to five locations – Logansport, Lafayette, Fort Wayne, Kokomo, and Indianapolis.
Dr. Sitha Gita was an accomplished musician. She had a passion and joy for music since she was a little girl. She was a professional classical Indian vocalist and professionally played the veena, a south Indian instrument similar to the sitar. She won numerous awards throughout her younger years in India and was very involved in Indian communities here in the U.S.
Dr. Umamahesh had numerous talents. He was a professional photographer with a love for portrait photography and received several awards for his work. He was also very passionate of flying since a young age and obtained a private pilot’s license, a dream he achieved in his 40’s.
Drs. Kalapatapu are survived by their three children; two sons, Rajkumar Kiran and Rajkumar Charan, and one daughter, Veena.
A memorial gathering will be held on Saturday, August 12th, 2017 at Gundrum Funeral Home, 1603 East Broadway, Logansport, Indiana from 12pm – 3pm. Drs. Kalapatapu had a love for flowers, therefore any flowers can be sent to the funeral home on the day of the memorial.
