Evelyn E. Heckard, 89, of Logansport, passed away Thursday, March 19, 2020 at Miller’s Merry Manor in Logansport.
Born on August 12, 1930 in Cass County, Indiana, she is the daughter to the late Emmett and Elsa (Richason) Nelson. Evelyn was a graduate of Young America High School. She worked at Memorial Hospital in Logansport as a patient representative. Evelyn was a member of Calvary Presbyterian Church, the Memorial Hospital Retirees and the Mary Dykeman Guild. Evelyn was an avid Purdue, Pacers and Colts fan. The family would like to give a special thanks to Karen Sommers for the love and care given to Evelyn over the past few years.
Surviving is a daughter, Nancy (John) Rhodes, Logansport; two sons, Tom (Cindy) Heckard, Logansport, Stephen (Dawn) Heckard, Valparaiso; four grandsons, Seth Heckard, Chicago; Jordan (Megan) Heckard, Valparaiso; Andrew VanZee, Zionsville; Adam VanZee, Zionsville; a granddaughter, Heidi (Seth) Strong, Greenwood; great granddaughters, Ava Heckard, Sienna VanZee, Scarlett VanZee, Natalyn VanZee; great grandsons, Charlie Heckard, Colton VanZee, Kellen Strong and Henry Heckard ; step great grandson, James Strong; sister, Phyllis Herd, Lucerne; sister in law, Sallie Nelson, San Benito, TX.
She was preceded in death by her brother, Donald Nelson.
A celebration of life service will be held at 12:00 pm Saturday August 22, 2020 in the Calvary Presbyterian Church with Pastor Tim McKaig officiating. A burial was held earlier this year at Center Cemetery near Young America.
A visitation will be held for family and friends from 10:00 am until time of service Saturday at the church.
