Forest (Frosty) Harvey Montgomery, 92, of Greenwood and formerly of Logansport, passed away at 7:15 am Monday, Jan.5, 2015 at Aspen Trace in Greenwood, Indiana.
Born, January 21, 1922 in Van Buren Township of Pulaski County, he was the son of the late Everett Henry and Lena "Kimbell" Montgomery. On December 28, 1941 he married Alice Irene "Bonnell" Montgomery who survives. He and Alice were married for 73 years.
Forest was a farmer and a former locomotive engineer with the Pennsylvania Railroad and the Penn Central Railroad. He also held two terms as the Clerk of Cass County and two terms as the Treasurer of Cass County. Along with his wife Alice, he co-owned Montgomery Realty in the Logansport area. He was a member of the Main Street United Methodist Church and a longtime member of the board of the Logansport Savings Bank. He was also longtime member of the Democratic Party and after retirement, enjoyed wintering with his wife in North Fort Myers, FL.
Forest served in the U.S. Army from September 1942 until he was honorably discharged in November of 1945. He served as a locomotive engineer with the Persian Gulf Command in what was then called Persia.
Forest is survived by his wife Alice Irene Montgomery, Greenwood; daughter, Marsha Lynn (David) Sander of Indianapolis; son, Philip ( Paula Dittrick) Montgomery of Houston, Texas; granddaughter, Sarah Elaine (Sam) Schilling of Northampton, Massachusetts; granddaughter, Elizabeth Irene Sander, Indianapolis; granddaughter, Anna Michelle (Adam) King of Greenwood; grandson, Zachary Hugo (Elissa) Sander of Mesa, Arizona; brother, Junior Harold (Bonnie) Montgomery of Rochester; brother, Donald (Betty) Montgomery of Peru; several nieces and nephews.
He was preceeded in death by his father, Everett Henry Montgomery; mother, Lena "Kimbell" Montgomery; and brother, Darrell Everett Montgomery
A celebration of life will be held at 2:00 PM Saturday, Jan. 10, 2015 in the Gundrum Funeral Home with Pastor Damon Soper officiating. Burial with full military rites will be at the Buck Cemetery in Thornhope, IN.
Visitation will be held one hour prior to the services on Saturday at the funeral home.
