Frederick “Fred” W. Easter, 88, of Twelve Mile, passed away Friday, October 2, 2020 at Woodbridge Health Campus in Logansport.
Fred was born on May 13, 1932 in Twelve Mile to the late Chester and Blanche (Carson) Easter. On July 12, 1953 at the Miami Baptist Church in Adamsboro, he married Shirley A. Zinsmaster who preceded him in death on June 13, 2009.
Fred was a 1950 graduate of Twelve Mile High School where he excelled in athletics, especially basketball. After high school, Fred enlisted in the United States Navy and served during the Korean War. Fred retired from TenBrook Sales. He was a member of the American Legion Post 60 and a Deacon and member of Corinth Brethren Church.
Fred was very involved in the Twelve Mile community. He was a member of the Twelve Mile Volunteer Fire Department, coached little league, and was a member of the Adams Township Board. Fred was a lifelong member of the Cass County Republican Party and served on the France Park Board. Fred also drove “Wally” the Weekday Religious Education bus for several years.
Surviving is a son, Douglas (Ann) Easter, Logansport; daughter, Lynn Schmid, Twelve Mile; four grandchildren, Katie and Johnathan Easter; Bailey and Jordan Schmid; two great grandsons, Jaxson Kropaczewski and James Everett; sister, Anita Hoehne, Lafayette; several nieces and nephews; close cousin, Sandy (Betsy) Kennedy.
He was preceded in death by a son in law, Dave Schmid; a brother in law, Lowell Hoehne, and an aunt, Edna Carson.
A funeral service will be held at 11:00 AM on Friday, October 9, 2020 at Gundrum Funeral Home & Crematory. Burial with full Military Graveside Rites will be in the Corinth Brethren Cemetery, Twelve Mile.
Visitation will be held from 10:00 AM until the time of service at the funeral home.
Memorials may be made to the Twelve Mile Volunteer Fire Department or Twelve Mile First Responders.
