Gene Arnold Zimmerman, 81, Logansport, died at 4:10 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 23, 2012, in St. Vincent Hospital, Indianapolis.

Born Jan. 23, 1931, in Logansport, he was the son of Andrew Zimmerman and Edna Johnson. He was married July 7, 1950, in Delphi, to Mary Ann Bechdol.

Gene retired as a supervisor for General Tire after 38 years of service.

Mr. Zimmerman was a veteran of the U.S. Navy serving during the Korean War. He was a member of American Legion Post 60 and VFW Post 3790. Gene loved fishing, traveling and all of his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He was an avid Chicago Cubs and Bears fan. Gene was a movie critic, as well as a longtime “Mash” and Three Stooges fan.

Surviving are his wife, Mary Ann Zimmerman, Logansport; sons, Randy Zimmerman and wife, Kathy, David Zimmerman and wife, Debbie, Brian Zimmerman and wife, Gayla, and John Zimmerman and companion, Carmen, all of Logansport, and Jay Zimmerman and fiancé, Lori, Monticello; grandchildren, Heather Moor and husband, Ryan, Fishers, Heidi Burkett and husband, Rob, Otterbein, Sara Emshwiller and husband, Aaron, Rensselaer, Jesse Zimmerman and wife, Angie, Logansport, Stephanie Frye and husband, Jeremy, Riverbank, Calif., Zachariah Zimmerman and wife, Holly, Galveston, Jesika Alexander, Logansport, and Ashley Zimmerman, Beaufort, S.C.; great-grandchildren, Vanderlei Burkett and Zuriel Burkett, both of Otterbein, Uria Gerlach and Evan Gerlach, both of Rensselaer, Charles Zimmerman and Megan Slone, both of Logansport, Brantley Zimmerman and Brylee Corn, both of Galveston, Grady Alexander and Evan Spohn, both of Logansport, and Mekhi Zimmerman, Beaufort, S.C.; brother, Thomas Zimmerman and wife, Hilda, Kokomo; and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by three brothers and three sisters.

Services will be at 1:30 p.m. Monday at Gundrum Funeral Home with Pastor Jay McKinley officiating. Burial, with full military graveside rites, will be in Mount Hope Cemetery.

Friends may call from 2 to 4 p.m. today at the funeral home.

Memorials may be made to St. Jude’s Children’s Research Hospital.
