George "Bill" Dempsey, 84 of Logansport, passed away at 11:30 PM, Tuesday, May 21, 2013 at St. Vincent Hospital, Indianapolis.
Born December 14, 1928 in Logansport, he was the son of the late Raymond and Mary (Lew) Dempsey. On May 13, 1951 in Logansport he married Issa "Jean" Stephens who preceded him in death on February 24, 2011.
Mr. Dempsey was a retired general car foreman for the Pennsylvania Railroad.
He was a United States Army Veteran of the Korean War and a lifetime member of the V.F.W. Post #3790. George enjoyed woodworking, gardening, and spending time with his family.
Surviving him is one daughter, Tena (Terry) Martin, Logansport; two sons, Ty (Karen) Dempsey, Winamac; and William (Sharon) Dempsey, Powell, OH; four grandchildren, Jeffrey (Jennifer) Dempsey, Leslie (Kenny) Maxie, Maddison Dempsey, and Teighlor Dempsey; three great grandchildren, Addison & Emilie Dempsey, Lily Maxie; Sister, Joan Decker, Logansport; two brothers, Dick (Betty Lou) Dempsey, Alabama; and Jack (Rita) Dempsey, Myrtle Beach, SC.
He was preceded in death by one brother, Gerald Dempsey, and one sister, Doris Green.
A funeral service will be held at 10:00 am Saturday, May 25, 2013 at the Gundrum Funeral Home, with Father Clark Miller officiating. Burial with full military rites will follow in Mount Hope Cemetery.
A visitation will be from held from 4 to 7 pm Friday, May 24, 2013, at the funeral home.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Cass County Relay For Life.
