Grant E. Putnam Sr., 78, Logansport, passed away comfortably at 12:07 p.m. Tuesday, July 31, 2012, at St. Vincent Hospice in Indianapolis, surrounded by his family.
He was born Dec. 19, 1933, in Akron, Ohio, to John Grant Putnam and Mary N. Parameter. He was married on Oct. 12, 1952, in Logansport, to Virginia L. âPeteâ McGuire, who preceded in death on April 16, 2005.
Grant retired from Conrail Railroad. He was also a truck driver and had driven for Deichman Excavating and Ward Hazelby.
Grant enjoyed fixing bikes, fishing and spending time with the grandchildren.
Surviving are daughters, Joyce DuBois and husband, Bill, Joni Putnam and Jim, Janice Briggs and husband, Rick, and Jenny Penny and husband, John, all of Logansport; sons, Grant Putnam Jr.
and wife, Deb, Ronnie Putnam and Lillian, Bruce âGeraldâ Putnam, Jon Putnam and Randy Putnam and Tammy, all of Logansport; stepfather, Robert Winegardner, Logansport; sisters, Kim Vigar and husband, Glenn, and Susie DeHaven and husband, Charlie, all of Logansport; brothers, Fred Winegardner and wife, Cindy, Onward, Ed Putnam and Richard Putnam, both of Logansport, and Don Putnam and wife, Etta, Macy; 23 grandchildren; 35 great-grandchildren; three great-great-grandchildren; and his beloved dog, Nikki.
He was preceded in death by three sons, Ricky, Bradley and Jeffrey Putnam, and one daughter, Julie Putnam.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Friday at Gundrum Funeral Home with Pastor Tim McKaig officiating. Burial will be in Mount Hope Cemetery.
Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home.
