Harold Dora

Harold Byron Dora, 89 of Logansport, IN peacefully passed away on February 13 th at 10:42am, with his loving wife and children by his side at Logansport Memorial Hospital.

Harold was born to Byron and Dorothy (Nicolay) Dora on October 3, 1932 and proudly shared his birthday with his beloved Disney character “Goofy”. Harold shared his childhood with his sisters Viola McEntee (deceased), Phyllis Huffman (deceased), and Charlene Shank of Indianapolis, IN. He met his childhood sweetheart in 1 st grade, who would later become his wife of 69 years. He graduated from Brookville High School in 1951, joined the Air Force and proudly began serving his country in November of 1951. Harold proudly served his country in both the Korean and Vietnam Wars, and is regarded by all who know him as a true American Hero.

On May 11, 1952 he married his childhood sweetheart, Marilyn Kelley. Harold and Marilyn started school together in the 1 st grade, and sweethearts all the way through high school. They spent 23 years together in the Air Force stationed in several states including Guam. Senior Master Sargent Harold Dora proudly retired from the Air Force at Grissom Air Force Base in Indiana. Though he never stopped supporting the country he fiercely loves.

From their adventurous union came 3 loving sons, Jeffrey Dora (wife Patty), Bryan Dora (wife Marsha), and Kelly Dora (wife Michele). This loving family grew with added blessings of 7 grandchildren and 14 great grandchildren, all of whom adore and are proud of their grandfather.

Following his retirement from the Air Force in 1975 he was employed with Sears in Logansport, Indiana. Harold was the perfect example of a family man, husband, father, grandfather, and great grandfather making memories while camping, boating and making friends in the community and at church. His family attended Market St United Methodist Church, which later built a new church: Crosswind United Methodist Church. Harold enjoyed greeting people on Sunday mornings. If you met Harold, you loved Harold.

Following his retirement from Sears he and Marilyn spent 23 wonderful years wintering in Florida where they continued to celebrate their love for one another golfing, traveling, cruising, and making lifetime friendships. Harold’s love of all-things-Disney also led him to work for several years as a host at Walt Disney World, where he enjoyed greeting and assisting visitors. Harold and Marilyn created many family memories around Florida with his family, who all loved visiting and spending time with the love-birds and snow-birds.

Preceeding Harold in their journey to heaven were his parents, Byron and Dorothy, and his sisters Viola McEntee and Phyllis Huffman.
