Hobart F. Shanks, 85, of Logansport passed away Friday, October 31, 2014 at Miller's Merry Manor in Logansport.
Born March 25, 1929 in Cass County, he was the son of the late Orval and Louanna (Plank) Shanks. On October 21, 1951 in Logansport he married Mary Jean Conrad who survives.
Hobart retired from Exide Corporation after 28 years of service and was also a former farmer. He was a 1947 graduate of Young America High School. Hobart was a United States Army Veteran, a member of the River of Life Christian Church, and the American Legion Post# 60. He enjoyed working outside in his garden.
Surviving along with his wife, Mary Jean, is a daughter, Nancy (John) LaOrange, Logansport; son, Ronald (Kelly) Shanks, Lowell, IN; seven grandchildren, Kyle (Marie) Shaffer, Frankfort, IN; Kevin (Alison) Shaffer, Indianapolis; Brendon Shanks, Lowell, IN; Jessica (Lalo) Dominguez, Salt Lick, KY; Joe (Sherri) LaOrange; Jerry (Beth) LaOrange; Jina (Dale) Lowe, all of Logansport; several great grandchildren and great great grandchildren; two brothers, John (Helen) Shanks, Logansport; Max (Ada) Shanks, Kokomo; three sisters, Lucille Mohler, Milford, OH; Helen (Gail) Ennis, Flora, IN; Carol (Jim) Allen, Kokomo; and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by two infant sons, Timothy Joe and Lynn Alan Shanks and one sister, Mary Lou Franks.
A celebration of Life will be held at 10:30 am Tuesday November 4, 2014 in the Gundrum Funeral Home with Pastor Keith Kincaid officiating. Burial will follow in Ever-Rest Memorial Park with full military graveside rites.
A visitation will be held from 4:00 pm – 7:00 pm on Monday, November 3, 2014 at the Gundrum Funeral Home
Memorials may be made to the River of Life Christian Church.
