Services for Ishmeal J. Wilburn, 77, Logansport, will be at 1:00 p.m. Sunday in Gundrum Funeral Home.
He died at 6:50 a.m. Friday, July 24, 2009, in Chase Nursing and Rehabilitation Center.
Born January 21, 1932, in Powell County, Kentucky, he was the son of Ishmael and Lizzie J. Townsend Wilburn. He was married July 4, 1966, in Logansport, to Sharon S. Swafford, who survives.
Ishmeal was a coil spring setup man and operator for Midwest Spring.
Ishmeal enjoyed playing horseshoes and fishing. He was an Army Veteran of the Korean War holding the rank of Corporal. He was a recipient of a Purple Heart, Republic of Korea Presidential Unit Citation Badge, and the Korean Service Medal with five bronze service stars during his time serving his country in the Army.
Also surviving is daughter, Deb Ashcraft of Logansport; brothers, Rudell Wilburn and wife Ruth, Lafayette, and Donald Wilburn and wife Eileen, Fishers, IN; sisters, Dorothy Hubbard, Kokomo, and Fanny Tedeschi, Michigan City, IN; grandchildren, Serena Kendall and husband âFonziâ, Dennis Ashcraft and companion Tammy; great-grandchildren, Deitrich Davis II and Keyton Ashcraft all of Logansport; and several nieces and nephews.
Ishmeal was preceded in death by his parents and one son-in-law, Dennis J. Ashcraft.
Dr. Horace Smith will officiate. Burial, with military graveside rites, will be in Galveston Cemetery, Galveston.
