LOGANSPORT - James "Jim" L. DeWitt, 78, Logansport, passed away at 12:12 a.m. Saturday, Dec. 1, 2012, at The Arbor at Logansport Memorial Hospital.
He was born Feb. 8, 1934, in Bethleham Township to Neil DeWitt and Ethel Nice.
Jim was retired from Exide Battery factory after 29 years of service. He had also worked for the Logansport Schools as a custodian at Franklin Elementary.
Jim was a U.S. Army Veteran. He was a 1952 graduate of Metea High School, member of the Indiana Garden Tractors and the Indiana Pulling Club. He enjoyed pulling lawn mower tractors and at one time had his own lawn care business.
He is survived by son, Timothy DeWitt and wife Sandy, Walton; son, Terry DeWitt, Logansport; daughter, Charlotte Roth and husband Mike, Logansport; daughter, Mindy Hoch and husband Clarence, Logansport; several grandchildren and great-grandchildren; brother, Dale DeWitt and wife Diane, Lucerne; brother, Donnie DeWitt, Twelve Mile; sister, Judy DeWitt, Logansport; sister, Charlene Warner, Logansport; special friends, Jim and Tammy Stokes, Logansport; and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by one son, James Leland DeWitt; two brothers, Gene DeWitt and Darrell DeWitt; and two sisters-in-law, Carolyn DeWitt and Shirley DeWitt.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday at Gundrum Funeral Home and Crematory with Dan Kendall officiating the service. Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Monday at the funeral home.
