James W. âBillâ Farris
Services for James W. âBillâ Farris, 78, Logansport, will be held at 10 a.m. Thursday in Gundrum Funeral Home.
He died at 12:10 a.m. Monday, Dec. 3, 2007, in Parkview Hospital, Fort Wayne.
Born June 21, 1929, in Crawford County, he was the son of James Edward and Molly Marie Ridge Farris. He was married March 27, 1950, in Jacksonville, N.C., to Joan Cunningham, who preceded in death Oct. 4, 2006.
Bill retired in 1988 as a diesel mechanic for McMahan OâConnor. He was a veteran of the U.S. Marine Corps serving in the Korean War.
Bill was a member of American Legion Post 60 and Local 103 Operating Engineers.
Surviving are sons, Richard W. âDickâ Farris and wife, Toni, and Danny Farris and wife, Diana, all of Logansport, and Steve Farris, Royal Center; daughters, Susan English and husband, John, Switz City, Mary Black and husband, James, Delphi, and Janice Thomas and husband, Brad, Mount Juliet, Tenn.; sisters, Wilma Green, Evelyn Hettinger, Alice Shafer and Ruth Shafer, all of Logansport, and Ivy Smith, Florida; brothers, Frank Farris, Pittsboro, and Gary Farris, Logansport; 16 grandchildren; several great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandson; and several nieces and nephews.
One son, John D. Farris, and one daughter-in-law, Bonita Farris, preceded in death.
The Rev. Dirk Raderstorf will officiate. Burial, with full military graveside rites, will be in the Walton IOOF Cemetery, Walton.
Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. Wednesday in the funeral home.
