James "Jim" Lee Metz, 72, of Logansport, passed away Wednesday, July 31, 2013 at 1:30 am in his residence.
Born on September 1, 1940, he was the son of the late Robert and Phyllis (Wright) Metz. On May 26, 1962 in Grand Forks, North Dakota, he married Gloria M. Schulz who survives.
Jim was an Engineering Technician at Grissom A.F.B..
Mr. Metz was a United States Air Force Veteran. He was a member of St. James Lutheran Church, and enjoyed fishing. Jim was honored to have one of the little league fields in Logansport dedicated as "Metz Field", as he spent countless hours volunteering his time. He was a former Sunday School Superintendant and served on several boards. Spending time with family was very important to Jim.
Surviving along with his wife, are three sons, James R. (Tay Hester) Metz, Logansport; Thomas L. (Debbie) Metz, Delphi; Michael W. (Megan) Metz, Brooklyn, MI; three grandsons, Matthew T. (Emily) Metz, Rainbow City, AL; Steven L. Metz, Lafayette; Ryan J. Metz, Brooklyn, MI; great grandson, Mason E. Metz, Rainbow City, AL; two sisters, Dianna (Floyd) Pennington, McDonough, GA; and Carolyn (John) Pennington, Greenwood, IN.
Jim was preceded in death by one brother, Max Metz.
A Funeral service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Sunday, August 4, 2013 at St. James Evangelical Lutheran Church in Logansport, with Pastor Marvin Hinkle officiating. Burial will be at Michigan Cemetery in Michigan, North Dakota.
Visitation will be held on Saturday, August 3, from 3:00 - 7:00 p.m. in the Gundrum Funeral Home and one hour prior to services at the church on Sunday.
In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to St. James Lutheran Church or Metz Field in Logansport.
