Jessie E. Sibley Sr., 88, of Logansport passed away Friday, December 6, 2013 at 1:15 am, at Memorial Hospital in Logansport.
Born on July 24, 1925 in Satartia, Mississippi, he was the son of the late John Elbert and Jessie (Warnock) Sibley. On October 2, 1948 at Fort Dix in New Jersey he married Virginia Sours who preceded in death.
In March of 1953, while traveling from Mississippi to Detroit to look for work, Jessie stopped in Logansport found a job, raised his family, and lived here for the rest of his life.
On April 13, 1983 in Logansport, he married Bonnie M. Denny who preceded in death on March 6, 1987. Then, on July 24, 1999 in Logansport, he married Charlotte L. (Hoover) Ingram who survives.
Jessie worked as a Mechanic for Rays Creamery/Prairie Farms Dairy for 32 years, retiring in 1987. He was retired from the United States Army in 1952 after serving in WWII and during the Korean Conflict. Jessie was a member of the Main Street United Methodist Church, V.F.W. Post 3790, and American Legion Post 60.
Surviving along with his wife Charlotte, is his daughter, Roberta Louise Luse, Logansport; son, Jessie "Jay" E. Sibley Jr., Beech Grove, IN; Great Niece, Bonnie Raines (John) Goodman, Worthington, IN; Great Great Nephew, John Goodman Jr. , Monticello, IN; four step daughters, Linda (Jim) Hartz, Indianapolis; Bonnie J. (Pastor Kenneth) Suetterlin, Marshalltown, IA; Monica (Ralph) Simmons, Lincoln, IN; Mary Ingram and husband Steve Longenecker, Logansport; two step sons, William E. (Theresa) Ingram, Burnettsville, IN; Joseph D. (Lisa) Ingram, Indianapolis; two brothers, Robert Van Sibley, and Charles Henry Sibley, both of Vicksburg, MS; three sisters, Jewell Marie Graham, Paducah, KY; Mary Ann Mathes, Vicksburg, MS; Peggy Nezat, Raceland, LA; two nieces, Ruby (Larry) Parker; Cheryl (Tom) Jones; adopted daughters, Betty Bowen; Jane Patch; grandsons, Jay Luse, David (Heather) Luse, all of Logansport; David Sibley, Greenwood, IN; six great grandchildren, Jessie Luse, Justin Luse, both of Logansport; Tobias McCullough, Kokomo; Haley Rodkey, David Kreig, and Brian Krieg, all of Lafayette; 14 step grandchildren; 10 step great grandchildren; numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by 6 brothers, 3 sisters, which included Bonnie James of Logansport, and his beloved dog Sir Jessie Jr.
A funeral service will be held at 10:30 AM Tuesday, December 10, 2013, in the Gundrum Funeral Home with Rev. Damon Soper officiating. Burial will take place in Mt. Hope Cemetery with full Military Rites.
Visitation will be from 1:00PM till 7:00PM on Monday, December 9, 2013 at Gundrum Funeral Home.
