Services for John Cover, 94, Logansport, will be held at 10:30 a.m. Thursday at Gundrum Funeral Home with full military rights.
He died at 1:48 a.m. Sunday, Dec. 27, 2009 in his residence.
Born Nov. 20, 1915, in Logansport, he was the son of Samuel and Lillie Sprowl Cover. He married in 1947 in Rantoul, Ill. to Alta Cover who preceded him death. He married Marilyn R. Calloway Sept. 18, 1964 in Dayton, Ohio, who preceded him in death Sept. 3, 2008.
John retired from the Air Force in 1956. He was a 1934 graduate of Logansport High School and a member of the American Legion Post 3790. After retiring from the Air Force he worked at the Cape Canaveral Space Laboratory and later as an air craft maintenance instructor at Chaunte Air Force Base in Rantoul, Ill.
In 1977 he returned to Logansport where he worked as a security officer for National City Bank. John enjoyed sitting on the porch in warm weather, hanging out and playing solitaire in the green room, as well as watching the birds and rabbits in his back yard. One of his favorite places to eat was Tweedle-Deeâs restaurant in Rochester.
Surviving are son John Scott Cover and Wife Christina, Logansport; daughter Debra K. Tarter, Paxton, Ill.; grandson Kegan Clark, Logansport; granddaughter Sage Brianna Tarter, Baltimore; nephew Christopher Cover and wife Kristina, Logansport; nephew David Cover and wife Marty, Logansport; niece Sandy Wise and husband Charles, Monticello; nephew John R. Cover and wife Brenda, Auburn, Calif. and nephew Tom Cover, Hillsboro, N.M.
He was also preceded in death by four brothers Russell, Elmer, Elfred and Joseph and one son Brian C. Loxley.
Reverend Scott Ellison will officiate. Burial will be in Mount Hope Cemetery.
Friends may call from 4 to 7 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.
