Services for John E. McMahan, 96, Logansport, will be at 2 p.m. Sunday in Gundrum Funeral Home.
He died at 8:09 p.m. Wednesday, April 1, 2009, in the emergency room at Logansport Memorial Hospital.
Born Sept. 5, 1912, in Flora, he was the son of Ora A. and Margaret Lowe McMahan.
John retired from the Penn Central Railroad. He had also worked in construction building several homes in the Logansport area. John was also a former used car salesman at various dealerships in Logansport.
He was a member of Cross-Wind United Methodist Church, a 50-year-plus member of Tipton Masonic Lodge 33, where he served as chaplain for 25 years, and a member of Scottish Rite Valley of Indianapolis and Heartland Cruisers Car Club. John was a pilot and enjoyed flying, working and riding his Indian motorcycle. John officially retired at the age of 92 after his doctor requested him to. John was also a long-time volunteer at Memorial Hospital.
Surviving are long-time companion, Myra Vanecek, Logansport; son, Don L. McMahan Sr. and wife, Teresa, Logansport; daughters, Sharlene Arnold and husband, Art Sr., South Carolina, Saundra Stuart and husband, Tracy, Logansport, and Myra McMahan Kennedy, Tampa, Fla.; grandchildren, Ralph Colter Jr. and wife, Toni, Diana Ross and husband, Paul, Theresa Stuart-Baker and husband, Louis Sr., Don McMahan Jr. and wife, Pam, and Michael McMahan Sr. and wife, Tami, all of Logansport, Greg Colter Sr. and wife, JoAnn, Virginia, Art Arnold Jr. and wife, Kelli, West Virgina, Ron Arnold and companion, Jackie, South Carolina, Brian Stuart II and wife, Maryella, Illinois, Fonda Garcia and husband, Jose, South Carolina, Karena Gruca and husband, John, North Carolina, John J. McMahan Sr. and wife, Deb, Walton, Sue Kennedy, Florida, and Jon Kennedy Jr. and wife, Sally, Florida; 56 great-grandchildren; and 23 great-great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by one brother, Wilbur âWebâ D. McMahan, and Johnâs former wife, Gladys.
The Rev. George Plasterer will officiate. Burial will be in Ever-Rest Memorial Park.
Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. Saturday and one hour before services Sunday at the funeral home. Masonic services will be held at 7 p.m. Saturday at the funeral home.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Tipton Masonic Lodge Building Fund or Cross-Wind United Methodist Church.
