Services for John R. Slack, 92, Logansport, will be held at 10:30 a.m. Monday in Gundrum Funeral Home.
He died at 7 a.m. Thursday, March 20, 2008, in Millerâs Merry Manor, Logansport.
Born Aug. 30, 1915, in White County, he was the son of Johnathan and Lela Ehmke Slack. He was married Sept. 20, 1973, in Logansport, to Ardath DeWitt Slack, who survives.
John was a retired Tool and Die maker for RBM. He was a veteran of World War II, serving in the European Campaign. He received a Silver Battle Star and Bronze Battle Star. He received a certificate from the government of France honoring him for his participation in the Battle of Normandy.
He was also a member of Elks Lodge 66, Tipton Masonic Lodge 33, American Legion Post 60 and VFW Post 3790. John also enjoyed golfing and was an avid pilot.
Also surviving are daughters, Kim Emery and her husband, Dale, Logansport, Paula Lytle and her husband, Bill, Logansport, and Linda Donnelly, Denver, Colo.; sons, Kevin Long and his wife, Pam, Indianapolis, and Jack Long and his wife, Marty, Dover, N.C.; sister, Joy Sacks, Michigan City; 10 grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
Two sisters, Velma Hook and Dorothy Batz, preceded him in death.
Pastor Andy Weil will officiate. Burial, with full military graveside rights, will be in Mount Hope Cemetery, Logansport.
Friends may call from 3 to 7 p.m. Sunday in the funeral home.
