Kenneth Cookerly, 87, Royal Center, died at 7:40 p.m. Wednesday, May 16, 2012, at Logansport Memorial Hospital.
Born July 7, 1924, in Manistee, Mich., he was the son of Kenneth Lawrence Cookerly and Florence Hopkins. He was married Nov. 30, 1944, in Bossier City, La., to Dorris Lee Adkisson.
He retired in 1987 from Exide Battery Company and had also worked for Standard Oil Company.
Kenneth was a former volunteer fireman for the Royal Center Fire Dept., former Boone Township trustee, former coach and president of the Little League Association, former school bus driver, former town board member and Lions Club member. He was a member of Royal Center Masonic Lodge and also had driven for Logansport-Cass County Public Library.
Surviving are his wife, Dorris Cookerly, Royal Center; daughters, Bonnie Cookerly, Baltimore, and Mary Shepard, Logansport; sons, Kenneth Cookerly and wife, Chris, Brownsburg, Greg Cookerly and wife, Kathy, Brownsburg, and Tim Cookerly and wife, Renee, Brownsburg; sisters, Lorena McCoy, Lebanon, Betty Nies, Royal Center, and Billie Brown, Kendallville; 20 grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by one son, John R. Cookerly.
Services will be at 2:30 p.m. Saturday at Gundrum Funeral Home with the Rev. Richard Utterback officiating. Burial will be in Mount Hope Cemetery.
Friends may call from 1 to 2:30 p.m. Saturday at the funeral home.
