Kenneth Edward Yeakley, 86

Kenny Yeakley born New Years Day 1928 and residing in Washington Township, Carroll County Indiana passed away peacefully on Sunday June 1st, 2014 at his home.

Born to the late Carl M. and Mary F. (Chapman)Yeakley, he lived all of his life in the original farm house. On August 31, 1958 in Indianapolis, IN, Ken married Lona D. Roberts.

Ken was a passionate man who enjoyed family, friends and farming. He spent his life serving first his family, then his community as County Councilman and other elected and volunteer positions and even his nation while in the Army. Prior to the Korean Conflict (Ken was the last man drafted from Washington Township prior to the conflict in 1946 and one of only 500 sent at that time). Ken was a member of the Mt. Zion Masonic Lodge # 211 for over 50 years, the Elks Lodge # 66, American Legion Post #60, the Deer Creek Crickets Alumni and Faith Lutheran Church. In his spare time he enjoyed his bowling team when he was younger where he became known for his dancing back up the lane after earning a strike. Ken enjoyed his card playing friends as he grew older. Euchre, Golf and 13 were his favorite card games. Above all he loved telling and listening to jokes and was best known for his sayings, like "The headlights in your fanny never burn out." or "It takes a big dog to weigh a ton."

Kenny was extremely loving and proud of his wife Lona (Roberts) Yeakley, his son Curtis Yeakley, son, Ben Yeakley & Rachel Cogar, his six grandchildren, Calen, Kate, Caden, Nicole, Adam and Emma Yeakley, and the many close friends of the family and extended family.

Ken was preceded in death by one infant brother.

The family would also like to let the staff at Southern Care Hospice know how much they appreciate their work and care.

The family will receive friends on Saturday June 7, 2014 from 1:00 PM until 3:00 PM with funeral to start at 3:00 at the Gundrum Funeral Home, 1603 E. Broadway, Logansport IN 46947.

The burial will be immediately following at the Rock Creek Cemetery across from Faith Lutheran Church 6765 E. 800 N. Logansport, IN 46947 (Just north of Deer Creek, 1/4 mile west of SR 29).

Memorial donations may be made in Kenneth's name to the Shriners Hospitals for Children, envelopes will be available at the funeral home or the Logansport Shrine Club. Or in lieu of monetary gifts the family asks that you practice random acts of kindness, with Kenny in mind, for your own family, friends and/or those in need in our community.
