Services for Lavena E. Kummer, 96, Logansport, will be held 1 p.m. Thursday in the Gundrum Funeral Home.
She died at 4 p.m. Monday, Feb. 9, 2009, in Millerâs Merry Manor.
Lavena was born on March 4, 1912, on a farm north of Rossville, to William and Julia Leibenguth Seager. She was married July 1, 1955, in Logansport, to Robert Kummer.
She was a member of Calvary Presbyterian Church.
Lavena attended school in a one-room schoolhouse and graduated from Union Township School in Howard County with 15 other classmates, although she took her senior year over due to her records being misplaced. Lavena was a homemaker and seamstress. She made numerous wedding gowns and bridesmaid dresses from pictures her clients brought her from magazines. In her 70s and 80s she won several awards for her handsewn quilts. When quilting became too heavy to handle, she switched to needlepoint.
Surviving with her husband are three children, son, Dick and Bev Zimmerman, Englewood, Fla., daughter, Vicki and Bob Champion, Belvidere, Ill., and daughter, Jeanie and Steve Jones, Logansport; eight grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; a sister, Genevieve Hawkins, Kokomo; and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by one sister, Treso Ruegamer, and beloved cat, Dusty.
Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home.
