Lee Wayne Yeakley, 91, passed through the gates of heaven on April 14, 2022, at Woodbridge Health Campus in Logansport.
Born on May 8, 1930, in Washington Township, Carroll County, he is the son to the late William Roy and Hazel (Stephens) Yeakley. On November 25, 1951, in Flora, IN, he married Freda Marie Trapp who survives.
Lee Wayne graduated from Deer Creek School in 1949 and was very proud to be a “Deer Creek Cricket”. Lee Wayne never knew a stranger and lived life to the fullest. He will always be remembered for his quick wit and ability to engage anyone in conversation.
Lee Wayne was an avid participant in sports throughout most of his life. Basketball, softball, golf, bowling and especially fishing. He was especially proud of his “hole in one” at Pond View Golf Course.
After graduation, Lee Wayne enlisted in the U.S. Air Force and proudly served until he was called home for a family emergency. Lee Wayne and Freda made farming their lifelong occupation. Lee Wayne had also worked for the State of Indiana for 11 years in the area of “weights and measures”.
Lee Wayne and Freda retired from farming and eventually moved from their home in Cass County, to reside in Flora, Indiana. He was a devoted lifetime member of Faith Lutheran Church, where he served on the board for many years.
Surviving Lee Wayne along with his wife, are his children, Barbara (Jim) Payne, Lafayette; Mitchell (Susan) Yeakley, Kokomo; Beth (Everett) Snoeberger, Camden; Jeff (Penny) Yeakley, Galveston; one brother, Deane Yeakley, Logansport; one sister, Mary Blue, Flora; eight grandchildren, Lindsey (Mark) Haugen, Carrie (Chris) White, Jill (Jesse) Daughtery, Jenna (Tanner) Hodson, Brad (Sory) Payne, Phillip Snoeberger, Neil (Suzy) Snoeberger and Tyler (Kayla) Yeakley; ten great grandchildren; several nieces and nephews.
One brother, William Yeakley, preceded in death.
A celebration of life will be held at 10:00 am April 19, 2022, in The Faith Lutheran Church with Pastor Kristen Schmid officiating.
Visitation will be held from 4-6 pm Monday April 18, 2022, at Gundrum Funeral Home.
