Lilly Mae Turner Halcomb, 82, of Flora, entered the gates of heaven, while surrounded by her family, on Friday, October 14, 2022.
Born on September 19, 1940, in Clayburn County, Tennessee, Lilly is the daughter of the late William Dayton and Lula (Bean) McDonald. On November 5, 1956, in LaFollette, Tennessee, Lilly married Landon L. Turner who preceded in death on August 15. 2008. Then, on August 10, 2010, in Cutler, Indiana, Lilly married Eugene Halcomb who preceded in death on September 20, 2020.
Lilly attended Rossville United Methodist Church and loved country and gospel music. She was a member of the “Cutler Band” who traveled and would sing to area nursing homes. Family was the most important aspect of her life, she loved spending time and traveling with her family, and they loved her home cooked meals, especially her chicken and dumplings.
Lilly had worked in housekeeping for St. Elizabeth Healthcare, but her most fulfilling occupation in life was being a mother to her seven children.
Surviving her are three daughters, Vontella (Brian) Schnieb of Camden; Kiesta (Dennis) Crume of Logansport; Jean (Sam) Heise of Rockfield; three sons, Michael (Mindee) Turner of Logansport; James (Andrea) Turner of Greenwood; Lee (Rebekah) Turner of Bringhurst; two sisters, Madge Treadway and Betty Edwards; brother, J.C. (Carolyn) McDonald, all of Tennessee; son in law, Ronald Appleton; step daughter, Cary (Bart) Wieser; step son, Cory Halcomb both of Lawrence, IN; seventy seven grandchildren and great grandchildren.
Lilly was preceded in death by a daughter, Patricia Appleton.
A celebration of life will be held at 6:00 PM on Sunday, October 16, 2022, at the Gundrum Funeral Home. A private family burial, officiated by Pastor Bruce Vernon will take place in the Rockfield Cemetery, Rockfield, IN.
Visitation will be held from 2:00 PM until 6:00 PM on Sunday, October 16, also in the funeral home.
Memorials may be made to the St. Jude Children’s Hospital.
