Lois Irene (Altemeyer) Henley, age 96, passed away peacefully on December 28, 2022. She was preceded in death by her husband, Robert Henley, son, Roy Henley, and granddaughter, Lori Henley-Hines.
Lois was born April 1, 1926. She was a beautiful, vivacious
young woman growing up in Brownstown, Indiana and stole the heart of a young solider boy, Robert (Bob) Henley. They were married on October 29, 1943, in the midst of WWII.
She created a warm home for her husband and their five children, where she oversaw their growth with discipline and love, even as they traveled the country and the world, so the family could remain together when Bob was called to serve in each new location with the U.S. Air Force. As a homemaker, Lois was busy and she always had a Bible lesson to share, like Colossians 3:23 “Whatever you do, work at it with all your heart, as working for the Lord!”
Her life had always been a blessing to others, through her many years of hospice volunteer work, serving families as their loved ones passed on to eternity, or serving her family and friends meals in her home.
Lois spent part of every day in God’s word. I don’t know anyone who had read the Bible more times than she had. She was a prayer warrior and was often interceding in prayer for members of her family – how very blessed we were! In her relationship with Jesus, she was determined to set a good example and she shared Him with anyone and everyone with whom she came into contact.
Her legacy of faithfulness and love will live on through her children, Sandra Henley-Hines, Chris Henley, Sue (JW) Cooper, and Roberta (David) Houser, her grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and great-great grandchildren.
A memorial service will be held at 1:00 pm Tuesday, January 3, 2022, in Gundrum Funeral Home, 1603 East Broadway, Logansport, IN 46947. A visitation will be held from noon until time of services on Tuesday. She will be laid to rest beside her beloved Bob in Ever-Rest Memorial Park Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Hospice in Seymour, IN or Logansport, IN.
