Louann Hanna Starkey, 89, of Angola, Indiana passed away October 30, 2017, at Kingston at Dupont Memory Care Facility in Fort Wayne, Indiana
Louann was born on October 13, 1928 in White County, Indiana. She was the daughter of the late Carl and Martha (Armstrong) Hanna. She was preceded in death by her two brothers, Ralph (Annabel) and Charles (Helen) Hanna.
On September 24, 1950, she married Joe Alvin Starkey of Carroll County, IN. They were married for 49 years before Joe’s passing in July, 1999.
Surviving are Joe and Louann’s children, Michael (Madonna Kremer) Starkey, Brenda (Alice Tillett) Starkey, and Katrina (Randy) Thiebaut. Surviving also are 5 grandchildren and 2 step grandchildren. There are 6 great grandchildren and 6 step great grandchildren surviving.
Louann and Walt Downham were joined together in a religious ceremony at Faith Lutheran Church in 2005. Walt Downham survives along with his children, grandchildren and great grandchildren.
Louann grew up on a farm and her mother was a school teacher. As a child, Louann loved being outdoors and loved horses She was an involved member of the community of Washington Township, Carroll County, after her marriage to Joe Starkey. She loved farming, cooking, travelling, fishing, gardening, baking, singing, playing piano, dancing with Joe, mushroom hunting, bird watching and sewing. She was a member of church choir, sorority, home economics club, band boosters, the women’s club at church and was also a Sunday school teacher. Louann was a member of Hickory Grove Church, Faith Lutheran Church and Calvary Lutheran Church. She worked at a law firm as a secretary for many years having graduated from International Business College in Fort Wayne. She was a kind friend to many and was a loving wife, mother, grandmother and great grandmother. She loved life, had a wonderful sense of humor and laughed often. She lost much of her memory from Alzheimer’s disease but always remembered that she felt blessed and loved. She was able to express love all her life.
A Funeral service will be held at Faith Lutheran Church, Logansport, IN on Thursday Nov. 2, 2017 at 1:00 PM. Visitation with family will be 1 hour before the service at Faith Lutheran Church. Memorials may be made to Faith Lutheran Church.
