Maggie Smith

Margaret J. Smith, 80 of Logansport, passed away Sunday, January 10, 2021 in her residence.

Born on February 25, 1940 in Logansport, she is the daughter to the late Maurice E. and Mary (Dale) Strong.  On November 6, 1960 in Logansport, she married Jack E. Smith who preceded her in death on April 19, 1995.

Maggie was a 1958 graduate of Logansport High School. She continued her love for education by becoming a teachers aid at both Longfellow and McKinley Schools. She received her education degree from IUK and taught at Fairview Elementary and Columbia Elementary for 30 years, before retiring in 2002.

Surviving is a son, Jeff (Kelly) Smith of Logansport; two sisters, Maurine (Charles) Marlino; Karen (James) Smith both of Orlando, FL; brother-in-law Jim “Buck” Bender of Logansport; several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her son James E. Smith and a sister, Carolyn Bender.

A graveside service was held on Tuesday, January 12, 2021 at Mount Hope Cemetery with Pastor Bert Stover officiating.
