Margaret Patricia Swan, 66, Logansport, died at 4:25 p.m.
Wednesday, June 27, 2012, at Chase Convalescent Center,
Logansport. Margaret was born Dec. 12, 1945, in Chelmsford
Essex, England. She was raised by her aunt and uncle, Patricia and
Allan Hills, from birth until age 20, when in 1966 she moved to the
United States.
Margaret served four years in the British Army as a truck driver,
before moving to the United States. She became a Red Cross
volunteer at the Grissom Air Force Base Clinic for 17 years, serving
as back-up to the doctors at the clinic. Margaret was the first Red
Cross Field Director, before that position was changed to volunteer
status. Margaret traveled to South Bend on June 29, 1991, and
became an American citizen. She held dual citizenship because
England had never released her citizenship. Margaret was
self-employed for many years, providing home health care.
Margaret was a huge animal lover, and police officers and their
families held a special place in her heart.
Margaret is survived by her
son, Carl (Misty) Dean Swan, Kokomo; daughters, Juanita Lea
Jackson, Logansport, and Loralie Ann Brose, West Lafayette; seven
grandchildren, Camryn, Hayli, Ciera, Darron and Nicholas Jackson,
and Abigail & Emma Brose ;husband, David Paul Swan, Logansport;
Margaret was preceded in death by one sister.
Services are 10 a.m. Tuesday at Gundrum Funeral Home, 1603 E.
Broadway, Logansport, with Pastor Rod Mason officiating. Burial will
follow in Mt. Hope Cemetery, Logansport.
Visitation is 4 to 8 p.m. Monday at the funeral home.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Fraternal
Order of Police Lodge #71, or Anoka United Methodist Church, or
Onward Christian Church.
