Mary Asplet

Memorial services for Mary Doles Asplet, 83, Logansport, will be at 1 p.m. Saturday in Gundrum Funeral Home.

She died at 8 a.m. Saturday, March 14, 2009, in WoodBridge Health Campus.

Born July 16, 1925, in Bethlehem, Pa., she was the daughter of Dr. Harvey Alfred and Laura Mary Laudenslager Zinszer. Her first marriage was on Aug. 22, 1945, in Hays City, Kan., to Richard H. Doles, who preceded in death April 14, 1987. Her second marriage was Sept. 6, 1980, in Logansport, to Reginald Asplet, who preceded in death Oct. 12, 2003.

Mary was an art teacher from 1967 to 1985 at Caston School Corporation. She attended Hanover College, Fort Hays College, Indiana University and Purdue University, where she earned a bachelor’s degree and a master’s degree in art education.

She was a member of Calvary Presbyterian Church, Daughters of the American Revolution, Alpha Delta Pi and the Logansport Art Association. She was a prolific artist in a variety of media. She also instructed art classes in “Mary’s Pottery Shack” at the Logansport Art Association. Mary also held a pilot’s license and enjoyed flying. She traveled extensively and was an avid gardener.

Surviving are daughters, Leslie Newton and husband, Steve, Hartford City, and Tracy Jackson and husband, Clay, Logansport; sons, Bruce Doles, Indianapolis, and Bryan Doles, Logansport; stepsons, Reginald R. Asplet and wife, Julie, Manistee, Mich., and Roy Asplet and wife, Carmen, Marquette, Mich.; stepdaughter, Jan Bryant and husband, Chuck, Moore, Okla.; brother, Harvey Zinszer Jr. and wife, Priscilla, California; sister, Betty Mordy, Kansas City, Kan.; several grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by two brothers and two sisters.

The Rev. Doug Mankell will officiate. Burial will be in St. John’s Cemetery, Logansport.

Friends may call one hour before services Saturday at the funeral home.
