Services for Mary Rosalene Martin, 83, Indianapolis, formally of Carroll County, will be held at 11 a.m. Monday in the Burlington Church of Christ.
She died at 5 a.m. Friday, Dec. 15, 2006, in Forum at the Crossing, Indianapolis.
Born July 6, 1923, in Detroit, Mich., she was the daughter of R. M. and Anna Dane Murphy Smith. She was married Aug. 12, 1945, in Pyrmont to Carl W. Martin who preceded in death Dec. 25, 2003.
Mary was a homemaker and had helped her husband on the family farm.
She was a member of the Burlington Church of Christ, the P.E.O. Chapter BV, Washington Township Extension Homemakers Club and was a former volunteer at Logansport Memorial Hospital.
She moved to Lafayette at age 8 where she later attended Lafayette Business College and worked as a secretary at Ross Gear Company. She met her future husband in a rural youth group. Rumor has it that Carl wanted her piece of pie, and they eventually fell in love. They married in August of 1923 and after Carl returned home from serving in the Army, they moved to Deer Creek in Carroll County to begin their career in farming.
Mary enjoyed cooking, baking and spending time with family and friends. Maryâs true love in addition to her husband Carl was her faith in Jesus Christ. She was devoted to her children, grandchildren and great-granddaughter, who will miss her deeply.
