Mary Jane Rowe, 100, of Indianapolis, formerly of Logansport, passed away on Saturday, March 19, 2022 in her residence.
Born August 31, 1921, on the family farm near Milford, she was the daughter of Cleveland and Rose (née Zimmerman) Shuder. She was married on November 15, 1942, in Milford at The Church of the Brethren to Charles Richard “Dick” Rowe. They were happily married for 67 years until he died on October 2, 2009. Mrs. Rowe graduated from Milford High School and was employed by the U.S. Rubber Co., Darnall General Hospital and Sears Roebuck & Co. before becoming a stay-at-home mother.
For over 60 years, she was an active member of Calvary Presbyterian Church where she served as an Elder, Deacon, Women’s Association president, Thrift Shop chairperson and started an audio tape ministry for homebound members. Mrs. Rowe also served as president of Church Women United and received the Valiant Woman Award for her many years of service to the organization, her church and the community.
As a community servant, Mrs. Rowe was a volunteer for the Mary Dykeman Guild at Logansport Memorial Hospital, Meals on Wheels driver and Salvation Army bell ringer. She served as a Room Mother at Daniel Webster, Cub Scout pack leader and 4-H leader. She was also a member of Second Mothers’ Study Club.
She loved the Lord, family and friends and her children and grandchildren were her greatest joy. Mrs. Rowe was a lifelong learner who always enjoyed travel and new experiences. Hers was a life well-lived and well-loved.
Mrs. Rowe is survived by her two loving children and five grandchildren: daughter, Janet McCaslin, and husband, Michael, Indianapolis; son, Don Rowe, and wife, Jill, Logansport; Audrey and Carson McCaslin, Kellyn (Braxton) Johnson, Andrew (Ashley) Rowe and Mallory Rowe (Dylan Orbaugh); and nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband, parents and brother, Glen Shuder.
The funeral service will be held at 11:00 AM on Thursday, March 24, 2022 at Calvary Presbyterian Church in Logansport with Rev. Chuck Compton officiating. Burial will follow at Ever-Rest Memorial Park, Logansport.
Friends may call from 5 to 7 p.m. on March 23rd at Gundrum Funeral Home and thirty minutes prior to the service at the church.
