Michael J. Porter, 68, Logansport, passed away unexpectedly on Monday, March 10, 2014 at 10:00 pm in Parkview Regional Hospital, Fort Wayne, IN.
Born March 19, 1945 in Logansport, he was the son of the late John Jr. and Charlotte Suzanne (Chambers) Porter.
Mike was a lifelong farmer and also had been a truck driver.
He was a 1963 graduate of Logansport High School where he was a wrestler. He was a member of the Clymers United Methodist Church, Clinton Township Fire Department, U.S. Army National Guard, Eagles Lodge 323, Moose Lodge 232, Tipton Masonic Lodge #33 and American Legion Post 60. Mike was a dedicated father, grandfather, and friend. Early in his career, he enjoyed God's creation as he drove his semi across the country. Mike's true passion, however, was farming where he worked with his son, Jim, on a daily basis. He also enjoyed traveling to farm shows with his family and friends. Mike never met a stranger, and his laughter would fill the room.
Survivors include one daughter, Sandra Porter (John) Wortman, Carmel; one son, James Michael Porter, Logansport; stepson, Jeffrey Michael Slusser, Flora; one sister, Linda Stroup, Kokomo; Companion, Diane K. Stienbarger, Westfield; grandson, Evan Wortman, Carmel; granddaughters, Lauren & Adyson Porter, Logansport; several step grandchildren, nieces and one nephew.
A celebration of life will be held at 11:00 am Friday in the Gundrum Funeral Home with Pastor Adam Speicher officiating and burial to follow in St. John's Cemetery near Logansport.
A visitation will be held from 3 pm until 8 pm Thursday in the funeral home.
A Masonic service by Tipton Masonic Lodge #33 will be held at 7:30 pm Thursday evening.
