Phillip L. Blackburn, a loving husband, father, grandfather and brother, passed away on June 4, 2023, at Parkview Regional Medical Center in Fort Wayne, Indiana.
Phillip was born on June 30, 1944, in Rochester, Indiana, to William Blackburn and Margaret (Pottenger) Blackburn.
On October 3, 1981, Phillip married the love of his life, Eva Sue Cecil, in Greentown, Indiana. They shared a deep bond and created a life filled with love and cherished memories. Together, they faced life's challenges and celebrated its joys, supporting each other every step of the way.
Phillip was a proud Veteran of the United States Navy. Throughout his life, Phillip was known for his dedication and hard work. He worked for Chrysler, where he devoted himself to his career. Phillip was a devoted member of the Community Church of Mexico.
Phillip leaves behind a legacy of love and a family who will forever cherish his memory. He is survived by his two daughters, Melinda (Kent) Young and Melissa (Doug) Harnish, both of Greentown, and his son, Hugh (Cindy) Gibson, also of Greentown. His sister, Beverly Sue (John) Musselman of Logansport;
Phillip's greatest joy came from his role as a (Papaw) grandfather. He leaves behind eight grandsons: Zach (Rosie) Young, Trevor (Ashley) Young, Wryan (Mollie) Gibson, Dylan (Brooke) Buck, Caleb (Kendall) Gibson, Connor (Molly) Young, Braden (Kayla) Gibson, and Austin Buck; thirteen great grandchildren, Wesson, Vivian, Maelie, Kennedy, Iris, Casen, Paxton, Delaney, Murphy, Landry, Waverly, Addison and Baylor. They were the light of his life, and he cherished every moment spent with them.
Phillip L. Blackburn's passing leaves a void in the hearts of all who knew him. His love, kindness, and unwavering support will be greatly missed. He will be remembered as a devoted family man and a true friend to all. May his soul rest in peace, knowing that his love will continue to live on in the hearts of those he loved and left behind.
A celebration of life will be held at 11:00 am Thursday June 8, 2023, at the Community Church of Mexico with Pastor Kyle Schnitz officiating. Burial will follow with full Military Graveside Rites in the Miami Baptist Cemetery near Logansport.
A visitation will be held from 3 - 8 pm Wednesday June 7, 2023 at the Community Church of Mexico, and 1 hour prior to services on Thursday.
