Raymond A. "Hitch" Hitchens, age 89, of Logansport, passed away at 9:25 am Wednesday, February 6, 2013 at Millers Merry Manor in Logansport.
He was born September 15, 1923 in Logansport to Burley George and Jesse Catherine Hausman Hitchens.
On November 23, 1949 in Logansport Ray married Mary J. Sims who survives.
Mr. Hitchens retired in 1983 as a service technician for NIPSCO.
He was a member of Calvary Presbyterian Church, NIPSCO Crackerbarrell Club, American Legion Post #60, Elk's Lodge #66, Tipton Masonic Lodge #33 and the Scottish Rite of Fort Wayne. Ray was a former Logansport Basketball player under coach Cliff Wells and received the Dewey Woodling Award. Ray had also served in the Navy during WW2.
Other survivors include one son, Kent (Anita) Hitchens, Carlsbad, NM; one daughter, Debra K. Wicker (Art) Calix, Fenton, MO; two grandchildren, five step grandchildren and seven step great grandchildren.
One brother, Art Hitchens, preceded in death.
A memorial service will be held at 2:00 pm Saturday, March 2, 2013 in the Gundrum funeral Home with Pastor Doug Mankell officiating. A visitation will be held from noon until time of services. Ray's request was to have his body donated to science at Indiana University Medical Center.
Memorials may be made to the Calvary Presbyterian Church Scholarship Foundation.
The Logansport Elk's will be holding an Elk's service just prior to any scheduled funeral rites.
