Richard “Dick” Oliver Burns, 71, of Kokomo, died at 5:08 a.m. Sunday, Sept. 6, 2009, at Windsor Estate, Kokomo.
Born Feb. 2, 1938, in Cass County, he was the son of Arthur Frank and Rosa Whiteman Burns.
On July 17, 1959, he married Sharon Kay Dunn in Logansport, and she survives.
Mr. Burns had been a warehouse supervisor for International Paper Company in Marion since 1987. He was an Army veteran.
He was a member of the Indiana Square Dance Callers Association, where he has been an active caller and teacher since 1982. He was also a member of the Rhinestone Rustlers, Rochester Swinging Dudes, Lafayette Fun Squares and Bridge City Squares.
Surviving with his wife are a daughter, Patty Bohannon (husband: Mark) of Lebanon; two sons, Richard A. “Rick” Burns (wife: Beth) of Flora and Gary Burns (wife: Michele) of Jamestown; and a sister, Jean Schoenke of Winchester.
Also surviving are grandchildren, Ricky, Abbie, Ashley, Briley and McKayley Burns, Chris, Katie and Cody Bohannon; several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by a son, Michael Burns; 3 brothers, Frank, Billy and Clarence Burns; and 2 sisters, Delores Asher and Grace Martin. Dick was a good husband, wonderful father and an awesome grandfather who took great pride in and enjoyed watching his grandchildren show animals and participate in 4-H, school and community activities.
Visitation 4-8 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 9, 2009, with services 10:30 a.m. Thursday Sept. 10, 2009, at the Gundrum Funeral Home, Logansport. Interment at Davis Cemetery, Burnettsville. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Boone or Carroll County 4-H or the American Cancer Society.
