Robert E. Canfield, 87, New Waverly, died at 10:04 a.m. Saturday,
Sept. 1, 2012, at his residence. He was born Dec. 31, 1924 in
Howard County to Harold P. Canfield, father, and Edith Merle Boone,
mother. On March 18, 1950 in Fort Wayne, he married Wanda C.
Smith.
He was the owner of Canfield Motors, and was also a retired
engineer on the Chessie System Railroad. In addition, he was a
member of the Boy Scouts of America-Sea Scouts; former President
of New Waverly P.T.A.; Past Master of the Masonic Lodge #484 New
Waverly/Walton Lodge #423, Scottish Rite Fort Wayne Mizpah
Shrine; president of the Cass County Past Masters Association;
member of U.T.U-B.L.F.E. union; a 53-year member of Miami
Township Volunteer Fire Department, serving as former fire chief
and president; Logansport Kennel Club; President of Cass County
Crime Stoppers; Member of Cass County Sheriff Department during
the administrations of Sheriffs Levitt and Carson; Cass County
Cancer Society; worked the New Waverly United Methodist
Breakfast; and Cass County Extension Homemaker Booth at Cass
County Fair.
Bobs hobby was his work. He worked helping other relatives,
neighbors and the average guy. He loved to surf and deep sea fish
in Florida, also fishing in northern Indiana lakes. He loved everything
about the automobile.
Survivors include his wife, Wanda Smith-Canfield; sons, Rick (Teri)
Canfield, Walton, and Timothy Canfield, Russiaville; grandchildren,
Dana Canfield, Indianapolis, Justin Canfield, Monticello, Brandee
(Justin) Hoffman, La Grange, Barry Canfield, Melbourne Beach, Fla.,
and Zachary Canfield, Richmond, Va.; great-grandchildren, Monica
Canfield, Brooklyn Canfield, Danessa Hoffman and Ayden Hoffman;
four nephews; and four nieces.
He was preceded in death by two sisters, Rosemary Brown and
Florence Smith; two nephews; and two nieces.
Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at Gundrum Funeral
Home, Logansport. Services are scheduled for 11 a.m. Wednesday
at the funeral home. Pastor Glen Knepp will serve as officiant. Burial
will be in Ever-Rest Memorial Park, Logansport.
